Global Settings

NetGong has a number of global settings that you can adjust at any time. The global settings are common for all Add dialog boxes and allow quicker network resource configuration.

To configure the global settings, do the following:

1.Click the Options button.

 

2.Select the TCP/IP tab and set any of the options you want to use:

 

Timeout

 

Specifies the number of seconds NetGong tries a host that is not responding.

 

Packet size

 

Specifies the length in bytes of each packet sent by the ping.

 

Retries

 

Specifies the number of attempts NetGong tries a host that is not responding.

 

3.Select the Audible tab and set any of the options you want to use:

 

Play the system alert sound

 

When this option is selected, NetGong plays the system alert sound.

 

Play WAV file

 

When this option is selected, NetGong plays the WAV file, specified in the text field below.

 

Play sound repeatedly

 

When this option is checked, NetGong plays the WAV file repeatedly.

 

Notify on recovery

 

When this option is checked, NetGong sends recovery notification once network connectivity is restored.

 

4.Click the Test button to play a sound using the settings defined in the Action group box.

 

5.Click the Enable Alert button to enable this alert.

 

6.Set the alert schedule as desired.

 

7.Select the Message tab and set any of the options you want to use:

 

Icon

 

Specifies the various system icons that can be used in a message box.

 

Text

 

Provides a space for you to type your message text. It should only be used when you need to override the default settings. All NetGong keywords used in this field will be translated.

 

Always on top

 

When this option is selected, the message box will be displayed in front of your other windows.

 

Close after [n] sec

 

When this option is selected, the message box will be closed automatically in n seconds.

 

Close manually

 

When this option is selected, the message box must be closed by clicking on the OK button.

When this option is checked, NetGong sends recovery notification once network connectivity is restored.

 

8.Click the Test button to send a test message using the settings defined in the Configuration group box.

 

9.Click the Enable Alert button to enable this alert.

 

10.Set the alert schedule as desired.

 

11.Select the E-mail tab and set any of the options you want to use:

 

Server

 

Specifies the name or IP address of your outgoing SMTP mail server. You can also specify a port number and timeout for the server, and a username and password for those servers that require authentication. Moreover, you can configure NetGong to use SSL if your server requires encrypted connections.

 

Sender

 

Specifies your e-mail address.

 

Recipient

 

Specifies the e-mail address of the person to whom e-mail should be sent in the event of a failure. To send your e-mail to more than one e-mail address, place a comma between each e-mail address.

 

Subject

 

Provides a space for you to type the topic of the e-mail. It should only be used when you need to override the default settings. All NetGong keywords used in this field will be translated before the message is sent allowing you to specific crucial information in the subject of the message as well as the message text itself.

 

Message

 

Provides a space for you to type your message. It should only be used when you need to override the default settings. All NetGong keywords used in this field will be translated.

When this option is checked, NetGong sends recovery notification once network connectivity is restored.

 

12.Click the Test button to send a test e-mail using the settings defined in the Configuration group box. We strongly recommend that you verify your E-mail configuration. This will allow NetGong to send e-mail alerts to recipient in the event of a failure. If you have a problem with your ISP's SMTP, try Gmail or install a personal SMTP server on your PC.

 

To use Gmail as your SMTP server, set the following settings:

 

Server: smtp.gmail.com

 

Port: 465

 

Log on: check

 

Use SSL: check

 

User name: your full email address (including @gmail.com or @your_domain.com)

 

Password: your Gmail password

 

Note:

 

Unless you host your mail domain here, Gmail automatically rewrites the "from" line of any e-mail you send via their SMTP gateway to your Gmail address.

 

13.Click the Enable Alert button to enable this alert.

 

14.Set the alert schedule as desired.

 

15.Select the File tab and set any of the options you want to use:

 

Parameters

 

Specifies the parameters to be passed to the application in the text field above. All NetGong keywords used in this field will be translated.

 

Start in

 

Specifies the default directory.

 

Mode

 

Specifies how an application is to be displayed when it is opened.

 

Notify on recovery

 

When this option is checked, NetGong executes a file once network connectivity is restored.

 

16.Click the Test button to execute a file using the settings defined in the Execute a File group box.

 

17.Click the Enable Alert button to enable this alert.

 

18.Set the alert schedule as desired.

 

19.Click the OK button to complete the configuration.

Note:

Any configuration settings defined here will be used as the default configuration settings when adding new devices.
